While studying Sargent’s handling of light and shadow, I became increasingly aware of how his luminous watercolors resonate with the clear, intense light of California. They also encouraged me to reflect more closely on the light, atmosphere, and visual memories that have shaped my own way of seeing.
These works are individually hand-painted watercolor studies after specific paintings by John Singer Sargent. They are both technical studies and a personal process of observation—an effort to understand how light, color, structure, and brushwork can remain precise while still feeling alive.
